As part of the TÜBİTAK Science Talks program, faculty members from Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering visited various primary, middle, and high schools across Istanbul and Tekirdağ to deliver science communication sessions aimed at increasing environmental awareness among students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevil Deniz Yakan Dündar gave a talk titled “What is Ocean Literacy and Why Is It Important?”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Tutak presented on “Oceans, the Poles, and Climate,” while Dr. Res. Asst. Oktay Eren Türeyen addressed the issue in his presentation “Let’s Protect Our Seas: Our Blue World is in Danger.”

In total, 13 school visits were conducted—4 by Dr. Yakan Dündar, 4 by Dr. Tutak, and 5 by Dr. Türeyen—reaching hundreds of students and raising awareness on marine ecosystems, climate systems, and ocean sustainability. These events aimed to foster curiosity for science, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen the link between scientific research and the wider community.

Through this outreach initiative, the faculty contributed to bridging the gap between academia and society, while inspiring younger generations to engage with marine and environmental sciences as future scientists and responsible global citizens.
